Parent must be told before teen abortion in Illinois: court

CHICAGO (Reuters) - The Illinois Supreme Court on Thursday affirmed a state law requiring that a parent be notified 48 hours before a girl under the age of 18 gets an abortion.

The Parental Notification Act of 1995, which has been at the center of a lengthy legal battle, requires doctors who perform abortions to notify parents 48 hours before the procedure unless there is a medical emergency.
