By George! German toy maker brings out a Royal baby doll for Christmas
Zapf Creation, behind the teething, crying, peeing Baby Annabell doll, claims her new "brother" will cry, make facial expressions and can be soothed by lullabies. A company spokeswoman admitted the only remotely Royal connection was the name, George, and a regal-themed Union Jack babygrow.
"The perfect gift for little ones this Christmas, Baby Annabell Brother Baby George will be available for a limited period of time and will go on sale before Christmas.
"The royal doll features a beautiful regal-themed outfit and he comes housed in a specially designed box. When your little prince or princess looks after him, Baby Annabell Brother Baby George will respond by making realistic sounds and facial expressions."
The toy was one of dozens showcased at a "Dream Toys" fair of possible best-sellers organised by the Toy Retailers Association yesterday.
The doll rubbed shoulders with a mixture of traditional favourite toys, such as Lego, Monopoly and a raft of technology-enhanced toys such as the Teksta Robotic puppy and the Furby Boom! There were also games such as "Silly Moo", a plastic cow that drops pints and cow pats, and "Gooey Louie", the "fun filled game of nose picking grossness".
Analysts believe pre-school tablet computers will be among the best-sellers, with half a million LeapPad Ultras and InnoTab3S VTech's expected to be bought in the festive rush.
The LeapPad, aimed at 4 to 9 year-olds has a seven-inch touch screen, peer-to-peer gaming and chat functions, megapixel front and back cameras and Wi-Fi capabilities.
